In Pre-Production, Securing Financing
When family secrets are more addictive than drugs.
It’s 2006. Zadie, a troubled film school dropout, takes drugs to dull the betrayal that’s gripped her since her father moved on to create a new family after her parents got divorced. When her mom finds that she’s using again, Zadie reluctantly accepts her mother’s challenge to make a documentary about her Uncle David, a convicted drug felon released from a US prison to die in Canada.
Instead of scaring her about the perils of drugs, Uncle David shares the true stories about his arrest and imprisonment, revealing her supposedly upstanding father’s role in his brother’s downfall. Now that Zadie knows her father isn’t the great man he pretends to be, she needs to decide what to do with these revelations and what this means for her.
Will it justify and feed her own demons? Or give her the strength to find the redemption and acceptance that she craves?
